A Day in the Life: Update

Hey there, folks! It's been a hot minute since my last update. Between juggling a million different things, I had to set up an organized way to operate on a daily basis that is sustainable. But enough of that, let me catch you up on what's been going down in my neck of the woods.

Livestock Guardian Partnership Training

I've been working on training our pups to be livestock guardians, and I gotta say, it's going pretty well! Here are some highlights:

  • I can now speak to both of our pups and grab their attention
  • One pup is further ahead in the partnership training and comprehends "Watch me," "Sit," and "Stay"
  • The other pup has the hang of "Watch me"
  • I unknowingly trained them to my whistle, which alerts the girls to come running to make sure they have eyes on me. Talk about a happy accident!
  • Also, evaluated and chose a GPS tracker for the next "Great Pyrenees escape." (Future post on this)

Daily Practices

I'm all about self-improvement, so I've been keeping up with my daily practices, including:

  • Practicing my French and Spanish communication skills daily. I use these languages almost daily, from the French bakery to the Spanish-speaking vineyard workers.
  • Restarting my Wing Tsun training and practice (at home). I'll definitely write more about this topic over time.

Built a Personal App - A Day in the Life

I built a personal app called "A Day in the Life" to help me manage my day-to-day better. Here's what it can do:

  • Writing Topics
    • A bank of ideas or responses to topics I'd like to keep track of and write about.
    • Super handy if I don't have a Moleskine on my person.
  • Egg Tracker
    • Keeps track of daily egg production for our egg-laying hens.
    • Trend graphs daily and weekly.
    • Includes #eggs, purpose, weather, feed, notes.

Egg Tracker daily trend graph

  • Task Tracker
    • Literally tracks my daily tasks across several categories: Homestead, Work, Personal, and Top of Mind.
    • Some nifty features for searching and filtering included with more to come.
  • Recipes
    • Recipe tracker (not sure what to name it yet).
    • You can upload pictures of meals you have cooked.
    • Keep track of ingredients and the days you normally make them.
    • I use this to help keep track of commonly cooked items in our house. This helps us have go-to meals, but also lets us have days where we have theme-based meals.
  • Leadership Development
    • Working week over week with my coach to help improve my leadership skills.
    • This deserves way more than a quick highlight, so I will post more on this topic over time.
  • McMurray Hatchery Order
    • Ordered 15 more baby chicks to add to the flock.
    • Still need to figure out some readiness items before I order meat birds.
    • Also hoping to luck out on some other chicks as more may come available through the season.

If you are interested beta testing ADITL for some of the above features just ping beta@aditl.app to get access.

Conclusion

Well, that's a quick snapshot of what I've been up to lately. I'm sure I'm forgetting something, but that just gives me something to write about next time. Thanks for tuning in, folks!
